If you want to live the enchanting Christmas atmosphere in Italy, you can’t miss the traditional Christmas Market in Bolzano!

This amazing Christmas market opens from the 26th November to the 6th January in Piazza Walther, which is amazingly decorated with a very big Christmas tree and a Nativity Scene.

The first market opened 25 years ago. Since then its importance has grown a lot: nowadays it is the biggest in Italy, with 80 stands and an area for children.

Walking through the stands you can find any kind of handmade stuff and local sweets. The most typical things that you can buy are carved wood objects, felt clothes, embroidered leather items and bobbin laces.

All of them come from an ancient tradition that adds a bit of magic and makes them extremely valuable.

Moreover, during the Christmas time in Bolzano you can take part to some workshops to learn how to create something unique for your Christmas, like dolls and Christmas cards.

Not far from the traditional Market you can find the so called “Artistic Market”, where artisans from different parts of Italy and from other countries show and sell their handcrafted products. It is a good alternative to the traditional Market as you can find unusual gifts from India or Argentina for family and friends.

Smelling all the different spices and sweets, going deep into the local handcraft traditions feels like a real step back to the past.

To make your experience even more authentic, try a slice of Zelten, a typical cake made of nuts and candied fruit and taste a cup of vin brulé, a hot drink based on red wine, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and lemon zest. You will love it!
