Italy over Christmas offers a magic atmosphere and Lago di Como is one of the best places to go!
Lago di Como is situated in the region called Lombardia, not far from the Alps. Third biggest lake in Italy, it is also one of the deepest in Europe with its 410 metres depth.
Probably you heard about Lago di Como as a summer destination but in winter it becomes incredibly fascinating and romantic.
So if you are looking for a destination to spend Christmas in Italy with your half, this is a fantastic choice.
Here you have some lovely Christmas things to do on the Lake!
Floating Nativity Scene. On the 24th December in Cernobbio will be set up an amazing floating Nativity scene which will be there until the 6th January.
Città dei Balocchi in Como. The beautiful city of Como over Christmas is transformed in a magic place: it becomes Città dei Balocchi (City of Toys), with many events to take part in.
If you take a stroll through the city you can enjoy the Como Magic Light Festival, with colourful light installations. Also, you can buy lovely gifts at the Mercatino di Natale (Christmas Market) and enjoy the ice rink in Piazza Cavour. Another attraction is the Mostra dei Presepi (Nativity Exhibition), where many artists showcase their fantastic craft Nativity scenes.
Christmas Markets. If you haven’t bought any Christmas presents yet, on the 23rd and 24th December in Menaggio you will make up for lost time: you will find lovely stands along the main streets and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.
Another great market is the Villaggio di Natale (Christmas Village) in Lecco. Walk in the town centre and don’t miss the opportunity to taste typical Christmas sweets!
New Year’s Eve. Either if you opt for a traditional or innovative celebration, Lago di Como offers you great choices. Most of the cute little towns on the lake organise a big party in the main square with music, spectacular shows and, of course, fireworks!
If you prefer something new, why don’t you go for a cruise on the lake? You can have a proper New Year’s Eve dinner on the ship enjoying an incredibly romantic view.
