Have you ever had gnocchi alla sorrentina?

Gnocchi alla sorrentina is a delicious Italian dish.

The name comes from Sorrento, beautiful little city close to Naples where this dish was invented.

It is a must-try of the Neapolitan cuisine, simple and extremely tasty.

You might think that the recipe is complicated but actually it is one of the easiest on earth!

Let’s try to prepare this lovely dish then!

The first step is buying top quality ingredients: only using the best products you will have a great result.

For four people, you need:

800g di gnocchi di patate –> 800g of potato gnocchi

500ml di passata di pomodoro –> 500g of tomato sauce

1 spicchio d’aglio –> 1 clove of garlic

250g di mozzarella –> 250g of mozzarella cheese 

Parmigiano Reggiano grattugiato –> grated Parmigiano Reggiano

basilico fresco –> fresh basil

olio extra vergine d’oliva –> extra virgin olive oil

sale e pepe –> salt and pepper

Now you are ready to make gnocchi alla sorrentina!

Put some extra virgin olive oil in a saucepan with the clove of garlic and heat it.

When the garlic starts browning, add the tomato sauce, fresh basil, salt and pepper and cook it for around 30 minutes at medium heat.

In the meantime, cut the mozzarella in cubes and leave it drain in a colander.

Bring a pot of water to boil, add a spoon of salt and the gnocchi.

Cook for two-three minutes, drain and add to the tomato sauce.

Put the gnocchi in a baking dish.

Mix carefully adding the mozzarella cubes, sprinkle some grated Parmigiano Reggiano on top and put in the oven for around 15 minutes at 180°C.

When the top layer is golden brown, it’s time to serve!
