Have you been to Morano Calabro?

An ancient village surrounded by beautiful nature, away from the stress of daily life and mass tourism: this is Morano Calabro.

At the moment travelling is not possible due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but as soon as we will go back to our normal life this is a top destination for your holidays!

Morano is one of the most picturesque towns of Calabria, situated in the Parco Nazionale del Pollino. The village, at 700 metres altitude, is surrounded by Pollino, Dolcedorme and Serra del Prete mountains.

What can you do in Morano?

The attractive and monumental Morano is enclosed within the city walls, that make this village the most representative of medieval culture in Calabria.

A visit to Morano is an immersion in an ancient world: San Bernardino gothic church, with its particular gates in yellow stone, and the baroque fascination of  San Nicola church, where you can find the white marble statue of  Madonna di Trapani, created by Pedro Torres, who also made the altar located in  Santa Maria del Carmine church.

The most evocative place to visit is the ruins of Colloreto monastery, dated back to XVI century, situated 7 km outside the inhabited centre. It was a monastery of Augustinian order, the most important ecclesiastic congregation at the time, famous for their artistic production, that now is exhibited in the different churches of Morano.

This gorgeous village, honored with the “Orange Flag” for environmental tourism, is in the middle of a group of ancient villages: Civita and its Ponte del diavolo; Frascineto, a characteristic nook of arbërëshe culture;  Castrovillari with its authentic tastes offered by Fattorie Covelli and Altomonte, the  “wedding village”, where art and traditions meet good cookery.

Good traditional food is one of the strengths of  Morano!

The most popular receipt is Melanzane alla calabrese, made with aubergines, cherry tomatoes, Tropea’s onion and  caciocavallo cheese. This dish is perfect with a glass of Cirò, the most typical Calabrian wine.
