Are you a Gin lover?

Well, you have probably already come across this excellent Spanish gin: Gin Mare.

If not, you have to discover this new concept of Gin perfectly contained in its name.

“Mare” means “sea” and makes us think of the Mare Nostrum, the ancient Roman name of the Mediterranean Sea, which connects all the countries and populations that live under its magical power and share scents and flavours.

Gin Mare is a herbal gin made in Vilanova, a fishing village not far from Barcelona.

Its botanical line up is rich and fragrant and makes it a structured, complex product to enjoy in unusual combinations.

Its main Mediterranean botanicals are Arebequina olives from Spain, basil from Italy, thyme from Greece, rosemary from Turkey and citrus fruits from Spain.

Cardamom, coriander and juniper berries balance and complete the herbaceous smell of this fantastic product.

All this amazing flavours make it so special through a specific procedure.

The citrus fruits are macerated together for a long period of time (more than one year), whilst the other botanicals are macerated for 36 hours and then individually distilled for around 4 hours and a half.

Once the different distillations are completed, they are blended with spirit and water to obtain the Gin Mare.

What are the best recipes to enjoy Gin Mare?

Try it in combination with fresh herbs to emphasize its anise-like notes or with citrus like orange, bergamot or grapefruit to match its fruity notes.

Surprisingly, a great ingredient to create an unusual cocktail with this Spanish gin is celery, but don’t be shy, create your own recipe using traditional Mediterranean ingredients or spices like cardamom, cinnamon or anise seeds!
