Discover Valle d’Aosta

Have you heard about Valle d’Aosta?

Valle d’Aosta is the most North-Western Italian region and the smallest in Italy.

Popular for its mountains, it is a surprising area where you can spend an amazing time in any season.

Perfect if you like skiing, is also amazing in summer, when you can enjoy its incredible nature.

What to do.

Aosta, the main city, is definitely worth a visit: for its Roman architecture, the city is known as “a corner of the ancient Rome among the Alps”.

Visit the Cattedrale, the Chiostro romano and the Basilica paleocristiana to have an idea of the Roman magnificence.

Once in Valle d’Aosta, you can’t miss the Parco Nazionale Gran Paradiso: the most ancient Italian national park, it includes Roman paths and bridges, protected species and rock paintings that will let you astounded.

Another spectacular place to see is the Lago blu (Blue lake), which reflects the Monte Cervino: take a walk and enjoy the colours and marvel of nature!

If you want to relax head to the Terme di Pré-Saint-Didier: a fantastic spa at the foot of Monte Bianco which offers various treatments and a lovely open air hot pool.

An unforgettable experience in Valle d’Aosta is the Monte Bianco Tour: 170km with rocks, glaciers, breathtaking views over meadows and valleys…gorgeous!

And don’t forget that this region is famous for its 130 castles to visit.

The most popular is the Castello di Fénis, a typical medieval castle dated back to 13th century, but you can find many other amazing castles through the region that are all worth a visit.

What to eat.

You will find a rich, tasty cuisine with meat and cheese as protagonists.

Definitely taste the Fontina, which is the most popular cheese made in the region.

Try the amazing soups, for example the zuppa alla valpellinese, with black cabbage, bread and Fontina, and enjoy some good polenta concia, the traditional corn flour cream made with cheese and baked in the oven.

The costolette alla valdostana are also great: breadcrumbed veal filled with Fontina and cooked ham and deep fried…delicious!
